C谩rmen L煤cia was appointed to the Brazilian Supreme Court in 2006 by former President Luiz Ina虂cio Lula da Silva. In 2016, she became the second woman to hold the position of Chief Justice of the Brazilian Supreme Court, a position that rotates every two years among the justices of the Court. Prior to joining the Supreme Court, Chief Justice Ca虂rmen Lu虂cia was a lawyer, a state attorney for Minas Gerais, and a professor of Constitutional Law. She studied law at the Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais and received a Master鈥檚 in Constitutional Law from the Federal University of Minas Gerais. She has authored and co-authored a number of books on issues of constitutionality.
