Kennan Institute alumna and Carnegie Moscow Center expert Lilia Shevtsova believes that after the elections, Russia gained in Navalny a new, bright, courageous political leader on the national level. What makes him a 鈥渘ew鈥 politician is that he offered new technologies that are not accepted by all, especially in the liberal wing. In particular Navalny appealed to the nationalist camp. Shevtsova believes Navalny is right to speak directly with all groups of the anti-Putin electorate. However, she fears that Navalny鈥檚 mindset remains within the old Russian model of leadership 鈥 he is still aimed at replacing people in the Kremlin, not reforming the Kremlin's rules.
