On Monday, March 18, 2019, the 浪花直播 Center Africa Program hosted a group of 15 students from Chemnitz University in Chemnitz, Germany. The students were participating in a Model United Nations competition in New York where they represented the Republic of Senegal and requested a meeting to hear about the 浪花直播 Center and the Africa Program's work.
On Monday, March 18, 2019, the 浪花直播 Center Africa Program hosted a group of 15 students from Chemnitz University in Chemnitz, Germany. The students were participating in a Model United Nations competition in New York where they represented the Republic of Senegal and requested a meeting to hear about the 浪花直播 Center and the Africa Program's work. Ms. Hannah Akuiyibo presented on the mission and activities of the 浪花直播 Center and the Africa Program as well as key trends in Africa and U.S.-Africa relations. Two Returned Peace Corps Volunteers in Senegal, Ms. Lindsay Swisher, and Ms. Laurie Ohlstein, joined the meeting and shared their perspectives and knowledge on key challenges and opportunities in Senegal from their grassroots experiences. The students engaged in a thoughtful question-and-answer period about Africa's role in the global arena, Senegal's position in the region and globally, and key issues and opportunities for the country on the security, development, social, economic, and governance fronts.
The Africa Program works to address the most critical issues facing Africa and US-Africa relations, build mutually beneficial US-Africa relations, and enhance knowledge and understanding about Africa in the United States. The Program achieves its mission through in-depth research and analyses, public discussion, working groups, and briefings that bring together policymakers, practitioners, and subject matter experts to analyze and offer practical options for tackling key challenges in Africa and in US-Africa relations.
